arrow icon I am a student who has recently given 12th exams from CBSE board.I am a Commerce student and I want to know the career aspects for me.Kindly guide me about the exams and future in commerce

After 12th commerce your choices would include BCom, specialised BCom courses like BAF (Finance & Accounts),BBI (Banking & Insurance) offered by some universities, or BCom with Cost Accountancy/ Chartered Accountancy/ Company Secretary’s courses would be typical choices. However, you also have the option of doing BBA/BMS/ equivalent, or five year integrated law degree, hotel / hospitality management/ administration degree, taking up Fine Arts/ Design/ allied degree ( if you have artistic aptitude), or Bachelor of Physical Education (if you have sports related interests and achievements), or you could switch to BA or take up a mass media degree course or BCA/ BSc IT, Bachelor Financial & Investment Analysis -BFIA(Delhi University) if you had studied Maths till class 12th( also English for BFIA) and other non-science related courses. Examples given here are indicative of the possibilities, but there may be a few more choices at different universities. You be aware of the possibilities and assess the demands of the choices and decide upon those which are in tune with your abilities and interests. Indicative examples.

Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Annamalai University, Annamalainagar, Alagappa University, Periyar University, Salem, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi are among the universities offering MA/ MSc Mathematics. Follow admission notifications in the prominent dailies .However, your maths percentage in the BA Pass is not an indicator of capabilities for further studies in maths and distance education would be even more of a challenge. It would be advisable to keep other options in mind in line with your abilities for your higher education.

arrow icon Sir, I have done B.A.-Hindi and presently doing B.Ed in Hindi. I want to M.A. Could you please suggest the subject in which I should do MA. Career-wise would it be fine if I do MA-Hindi or shall I choose a different subject ? Is there a scope of doing M.A in Hindi ? My plans are to do M.Phil and PhD after completing MA. Please advise.

It would make more sense to do MA in Hindi because you would be able to go beyond secondary school teaching to senior secondary teaching, for lectureship, and positions of Rashtrabhasha Officers in various public sector and government organisations. You could work in publishing, in translating, and related occupations. MPhil and PhD would enable you to seek positions in research and higher education.(16.03.2009)

arrow icon I am good at writing, speaking english language, but I do not posses any degree in english, hence guide me, how can I capitalise my this knowledge of english, as these days all the higher education are given in enlish language.

Conducting spoken and conversational English classes for students and other people who have not studied in English medium is a typical choice. You can also tutor students in English. Other than that, if you have writing skills, you could use it for freelancing. At the same time, it would be a good idea to consider pursuing a distance education programme (bachelor’s/ master’s degree) with English, depending upon your prior academic base. Examples are indicative.(22.01.2009)
