Mam, I am in 12th now and I want to fulfill my dream of being an IFS Officer in the future . I want to when and how shall I take the steps towards my goal. In all probabilities I am going to get 85% and above in my board exams.

The UPSC website www.upsc.gov.in would give you completed details of the Civil Services examination which could lead to the Indian Foreign Service and of the Indian Forest Service Examination also which leads to the Indian Forest Service. To apply for the Civil Services examination you need to be a graduate in any stream. However, the demands of the competitive examination are better met with a post graduation especially in the context of the Optional papers. The applicant for the Indian Forest Service should be a graduate in science or engineering broadly.

I am a B.sc. graduate (chemistry) from Goa . I have a keen interest in civil services like the Indian police services and the central police forces. sir, am trying my best to join one of these. but sir, Goa being a small state ,there is no sufficient study material ,and also there is no much exposure to such competitive exams. Sir, I have already applied for the Asst. Commandant exam of the CPF. Sir, please guide me as how I should prepare my self for the exams. I may also be interested in the previous years papers?..... (Paresh B Gawas)

Any leading book publisher in your area should be having the relevant books and study material required for preparing for the Civil Services. Further, it is the main text books of your Optional that are the most important for studying for the optional. If you still find it difficult to have adequate study material, try the option of enrolling for coaching through correspondence from some reputed Coaching Centers such as "Brilliants". However, do keep in mind that there is no substitute for a planned, systemic preparation spanning 1-2 years for this prestigious exam. Also keep on applying for other exams such as PO exam conducted by various banks and RBI etc. so as to have a good practice and feel of the competitive exams.

The basic eligibility for UPSC civil Services is a graduate degree in any of the disciplines as notified in the Civil Services Notification. The Civil Services notification is generally issued by UPSC in Nov/Dec every year and is published in Employment news. You may also access the website of UPSC www.upsc.gov.in for further details.
The Post Graduation degree does not make a difference to the eligibility criteria.

To become an IPS officer, You have to appear in the Civil Services exam conducted by UPSC. This exam is considered to be one of the toughest in the world and needs a very systemic preparation ranging from 2-3 years. Since You are already doing job in BPO, you could consider the option of doing MBA through distance education and simultaneously preparing for Civil Services as well as other competitive exams such as probationary officer exam conducted by Banks etc.
