I have done Bachelor of Information Technology and waiting for the results of the final semester of Master of Information Technology. I wish to do the Basis (System Administration) module of SAP. Kindly tell me about the scope of SAP and this particular module in the near future and also the list of the reputed institutes in the field particularly in Delhi/NCR.
I would not advise doing SAP as an entry point qualification. You should attend some information seminars regarding SAP training, talk to recruiters and working professionals to get a realistic perspective. distance education or part-time course does not have the same value or credibility as a full time formal M Tech/ M E from a reputed institute. Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP) courses are advisable once you have functional experience in the field of your professional education. The popular ERP packages in the market include SAP, Oracle Financials, BAAN, Peoplesoft and JD Edwards. An ideal background of ERP Consultants would be several years of domain knowledge (HR, Finance, Material etc) followed by extensive software training and implementation experience with at least a couple of real-world implementations. An engineer should ideally have two to three years experience in software development and prior programming experience at an implementation site before considering a SAP course. The ERP vendors and their implementation partners deliver most of the ERP training. Try to locate jobs seriously by approaching recruitment agencies, scanning newspapers for recruitment advertisements, going through job sites, and computer related magazines. If you have specific career options or jobs in mind, pursue suitable training, but continue the job search. Be prepared to work on short projects if a full time job is not available right away.

You should plan for a computer engineering degree or an engineering degree in an allied branch such as electronics and communication etc. There are many colleges offering this branch of engineering. However, if you are not a science student, then planning for such a career would be impractical.

Master Cert in Computer Aided Tool Engg (MCTE) and Master Certificate in CAD/CAM (M CAD/CAM) are among the courses offered by Central Institute of Tool Design, Hyderabad (www.citdindia.org) , but the institute offers short term as well as long term full time courses. Admission to full time courses is through an entrance test. Among the other institutions that could be offering such courses would be Indo-German Tool Room Aurangabad (www.igtr-aur.org)

If you wish to take up MCSA (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcsa/default.mspx) or CCNA (http://www.cisco.com/) you can do so, but before doing so you should understand the basic requirement of the career opportunities leading from these certifications and assess whether such careers would suit your temperament and abilities. It may be possible, but you should only consider this line of earning if you do not compromise on the quality of your engineering degree performance. It may also be possible to earn by doing science tuitions, if you are comfortable with teaching.

You can switch over to IT field by doing short-term courses. Many private and government Institutions offer these courses. The IGNOU offers, for example, Certificate course in ICT Application in Library (CICTAL) through correspondence. You can visit www.ignou.ac.in. However a physics PG gets job directly in All India Radio, Doordarshan and Department of Telecommunication as telecom engineer. Please keep watching vacancies in the EN and elsewhere.
