Dear Sir, I am arts graduate from amravati university and also passed P.G.D.Tax and P.G.D.B.M. form same univrsity. I am currently working with corp. company as ABM (in financial sector). I am want to do part time /distance mba from reputated institute. So please suggest me the same?Nilesh Mandlecha, nileshmandlecha@gmail.com

There are many institutions offering distance MBA/ equivalent courses through distance education including IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in), AIMA (www.aima-ind.org), Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik (www.ycmou.com), Anna University, Chennai (www.annauniv.edu), Alagappa University, Karaikudi (www.aluniv.org), Annamalai University, Annamalainagar (www.annamalaiuniversity.ac.in), etc. Since there is not going to be any placement from campus, you should pick out a course which is university affiliated and/or AICTE recognized. Part-time MBA programmes at locally reputed business schools would be advisable.

I have completed my cadetship and am giving second mates exam. while on board I completed diploma in nautical sciences. now I am in a dilemma as to what to pursue, maritime law or MBA and also as to how to pursue the same. please guide me with the right choice and the requisite colleges offering these courses......(Narayan B Warde)

As it is you need to be a graduate first before you can plan for a three year LLB programme or a two year MBA, so fulfill the requirements for the degree in nautical science, work for a while and then decide whether you want to give up the merchant navy. Your law degree would not be a specialized one but you could work in maritime law thereafter through relevant experience. For professionals working in the merchant navy the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Operation and Management at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (www.iitkgp.ernet.in/pgdmom) would be a specialized option. Otherwise you could do a general MBA. Making the switch would be advisable when you are well informed about the options in law and MBA, aware of the opportunities and sure that you have the right personality for it.

Find out about related courses offered by Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (www.iibf.org.in) but unless it adds value to your work experience, you may not find an improvement in your prospects directly after it. MBA (part-time) or MBA Banking & Finance (distance learning through IGNOU, or equivalent) would be most effective for enhancing your career prospects. Indicative examples.

what is the procdure of corssponds in MBA major in HR department? Dharmpal, dharmpal_9@yahoo.co.in

Your query is not really clear. However, if you are interested in joining correspondence MBA in HR, then the option would be to join MBA distance education and then opt for HR specialization or you should just track specialized MBA HR programmes. Admission in many cases is through a process of entrance test.

I am completing B.E (Electronices and Communication)should i go for M.B.A right now or first have some job experience and than go for M.B.A.Plz advice......(Heena Sheel)

If you work for a few years after BE, you can find out about career prospects and nature of work in engineering careers and formulate your goals for the future. The work experience after your graduation would also add weightage to your application for MBA. However, if you are not interested in working as an engineer, then you could directly apply for an MBA but would not get the weightage for work experience. Hence, you would need to perform really well in the management entrance test to get calls for group discussion and interviews for admission in prominent business schools.

I have done graduation in Marketing hons and at present doing MBA in finance.I would like to knoww is there in short term correspondence course which i can do along with mba for good placement.please suggest. bristi

Your best bet would be to do really well in the MBA programme that you are doing. If the business school where you are studying has regular campus placement, then by being in the top ten percent of the batch, you would be able to get the best choices from campus. If that is not happening, then too an excellent performance in MBA with good projects would be useful. You should also brush up your preparation for recruitment interviews and other selection processes like group discussions/ case studies, etc.

It is up to you to check before taking admission in such Institutions that whether they are recognised by the UGC or not. MBA degree from a recognized institution even through correspondence course is valid. For checking the list of recognized institutions you may log on to www.ugc.ac.in. However the degrees provided by Indira Gandhi National Open University is valid. You can visit its website www.ignou.ac.in

My name is prameela. I have completed my BSc Computers in 2001. Now I want to do MBA-HR thru correspondence. Can u pls advice me good universities and when the admissions will take other than IGNOU. Pls. help me out?...(Prameela Rani)

I don't know why you have excluded IGNOU from your priority list. Still it is best to get degree though distant learning. Anyway, In India three IIMs (Kozhikode, Bangalore and Kolkata), NMIMS Mumbai and XLRI are some of the premier B-schools that offer this option. The schools that offer a distance-learning module have a proper entrance test modeled on similar lines as CAT. XLRI offers MBA-HR in distance mode also. You can visit it's website: www.xlri.edu for further details.

I am doing B.Com Final from KUk. I have qualified MAT with 95 percentile. Can you suggest me few good institutions for MBA and not diplomas?...(Mayank M. Goel)

The MBA courses run by IGNOU are good enough. There are other institutions that provide MBA degree through regular courses. Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad website: www.iiita.ac.in offers MBA in Information technology. Eligibility is graduate in any discipline with valid CAT score.
