Gati Shakti - Road to Better Productivity & Employment

On India's 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced that the Centre will launch Rs. 100 lakh-crore project for developing holistic infrastructure called 'PM Gati Shakti Master Plan.' Describing the upcoming 25 years when India completes 100 years of Independence as 'Amrit Kaal' the PM expressed hope that India will achieve all its growth imperatives in this period. The Prime Minister said that India needs to increase both manufacturing and exports. Every product that is sold globally from India is attached to India, which is why every "Made in India" product is a brand ambassador for the country. "India imported mobile phones worth USD 8 billion seven years ago and is now exporting USD 3 billion worth of mobile phones," the Prime Minister said stressing the need for concerted efforts in manufacturing worldclass products utilizing cutting-edge innovation and new-age technology.

How will Gati Shakti Generate Employment?

For the past few years, India has been working for a reset of its logistics sector involving railways, highways, inland waterways, and airports to put in place an effective transportation grid which will go a long way in increasing industrial productivity. This will provide an impetus to local manufacturers and help them augment their global profile, enabling them to compete with their counterparts worldwide. It will also raise possibilities of new future economic zones and generate large number of employment opportunities.

PM Modi said that multiple parts of the country - whether its east, northeast, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh including the entire Himalayan region, the coastal belt or the tribal region - will become a big base for India's development in the future. The launch date of the Gati Shakti Master Plan is yet to be officially announced by the government.
